Villains in Hollywood Films Alfred Hitchcock once said The better the villain, the better the film and this years Hollywood filmmakers have abided by this golden rule as there was no stopping this years summer blockbusters from having a whole horde of villainous characters spreading their wings onto the big screen, making the darker side more appealing for audiences. Everybody has gone villain this year, from Tom Cruise to Halle Berry, from the not- so-friendly extra terrestrials in Alien Vs Predator to Spidermans sworn enemy Dr Octopus, played by Alfred Molina. Over the years the villain has had to move with the times, but there was one villain created that made history for he not only devoured his way, sweeping away other villains that were ruling over the box office, but paved the term summer movie blockbuster. That villain would be Jaws. Back in 1975 Jaws was a phenomenon upon release, but it was, first and foremost, an exemplary piece of suspenseful storytelling by a young talented Steven Spielberg, who would later become Hollywoods most commercial film director. Darth Vader in Star Wars, two years later, might have provided the evolutionary conclusion of the summer movie villain as a multimedia marketing event - complete with action figures in every toy shop - but it was Steven Spielbergs sea predator that proved to be a quantum leap, marketing wise. Even the movie poster was deadly scary to look at: the image of a female swimmer enjoying the sunny afternoon out at sea with the threatening primal beast in the background became immed iately a classic. The Dog, DarkMan, X, Earl; callhim what you will, but DMXs latest album, And Then There WasX is a disappointment. Although not terrible, this release failsto live up to the heralded rappers standards. And ThenThere Was X is actually an entertaining album with its share ofbright spots, but it is by far the worst of his three. It almost seemsDMX is trying a few experimental techniques; he has implemented avariety of RB beats combined with an uncharacteristically slowstyle that simply does not work well. Although his innovative approachis commendable, DMX fans have certain expectations of hard-hitting,fast-paced beats accompanied by intense, fragmented vocals. In thisrespect, And Then There Was X fails to deliver. Thereare, however, several highlights on Xs new CD. The lyrics on trackssuch as More 2 A Song and Fame deliver messagesagainst the commercialized approach many rappers have taken. Severalguest appearances also enhance the album. The Lox and Drag-On join DMXhimself on D-X-L, which makes for quite possibly the besttrack on the new release. 5 Types of Redundancy 5 Types of Redundancy 5 Types of Redundancy By Mark Nichol Various words and phrases serve to communicate what a word or phrase refers to or herald to a reader that additional information is forthcoming or a comparison is being made, but writers sometimes make the mistake of unnecessarily employing more than one of these indicators at once. The following five sentences illustrate an array of redundancies. Discussions and revisions follow each erroneous sentence. 1. Many of them are between the ages of 15 and 35 years old. ââ¬Å"The ages ofâ⬠and ââ¬Å"years oldâ⬠serve the same purpose- to identify what the numbers 15 and 35 signify- so use one or the other: ââ¬Å"Many of them are between 15 and 35 years oldâ⬠or ââ¬Å"Many of them are between the ages of 15 and 35.â⬠2. Despite differences between millennials and Generation Z, both share the same workplace learning needs. Both and share have the same function; they indicate that there is something in common. Either write ââ¬Å"Despite differences between millennials and Generation Z, they share the same workplace learning needs,â⬠or start the main clause with ââ¬Å"both haveâ⬠and detail the specifics. 3. In addition, financial institutions should also consider having teams that provide oversight at regional or global levels. Also is redundant to ââ¬Å"in addition,â⬠so use one or the other: ââ¬Å"In addition, financial institutions should consider having teams that provide oversight at regional or global levelâ⬠or ââ¬Å"Financial institutions should also consider having teams that provide oversight at regional or global levels.â⬠4. He hosted an educational television program from 1993 to 1998, and he also wrote several books on scientific topics. And indicates that additional information is forthcoming, so also is extraneous: ââ¬Å"He hosted an educational television program from 1993 to 1998, and he wrote several books on scientific topics.â⬠(Another option is to slightly simplify the sentence: ââ¬Å"He hosted an educational television program from 1993 to 1998 and wrote several books on scientific topics.â⬠Alternatively, also can be retained if and is deleted, which requires, however, that a semicolon supplant the comma: ââ¬Å"He hosted an educational television program from 1993 to 1998; he also wrote several books on scientific topics.â⬠) 5. His account was bolstered by Jones, who, like Smith, also relies on communications with a network of family and acquaintances still in the city. Like indicates that Jones shares a characteristic with Smith, so also is superfluous: ââ¬Å"His account was bolstered by Jones, who, like Smith, relies on communications with a network of family and acquaintances still in the city.â⬠Want to improve your English in five minutes a day? Slave Narrative essays I was born a slave girl; but I never knew it until I was about six years of age. I was born in Angolia, Africa with my birth family but soon after they were captured. They went through the Middle Passage and I went with them where we went through the slave trade. My family was partially separated due to the fact that my father was sold to work for a man as a carpenter in Charleston, SC; whereas my mother and I were sold to a different family in the same town. My mother was a house servant to a family named the Adams family. I was just a baby when my mother was sold so she had to bring me along with her. She was aware that when I got old enough I was destined to be a servant to the family as well. When I was about six years old my mother started to teach me how to do things such as cleaning up the house, assisting her with cooking, and helping nurse our masters children. She explained to me that I would soon be working with her as a house servant for the Adams family and there was a good possibility that I would be sold to another family somewhere else. I was so young at the time I really didnt understand what was going on. As time went by, I began to work for the Adams family; they assigned me to clean up anything necessary around the house and be the servant to their oldest children who were twelve and thirteen years old named Susan and Jacob. Mr. Adams was a very strict man and told me that if I didnt do my duties as a servant that I would be severely beaten. I tried my best to do everything I was suppose to and became quite good friends with Susan and Jacob. They treated me very kind and we played together everyday. Mrs. Adams was also very kind to me and she tried to he lp me the best she could if I messed up anything, so I wouldnt be beaten by her husband. She was very sincere to me and didnt treat me like a slave at all, but more like a daughter. After years passed by, the turmoil was just s...

Pyramidal ownership structure - Coursework Example ountries, and tends to exists irrespective of whether new companies are developed by smaller organizations or even groups and is crucial to underpin the entrepreneurial activity The organizational structures which various firms are connected through equity financing are ubiquitous in upcoming markets and in majority of developed countries. They are normally arranges as pyramided, where a family or individuals controls an organization, which later controls another company, which could also control another firm, and the chain continues. Despite their control, it is yet to be clear why such firm arise (Almeida and Wolfenzon, 2005). It is normally argues that such ultimate firm owners create pyramid in separating control right from the rights of cash flow and capture private control benefits at the expense of minor shareholders. Business group describes various types of organization. It is used to describe a set of legally independent companies by single families like family groups in East Asia, Latin America, and Western Europe. The term has also been used for companies with lower stance of core control achieved via interlocking directorates and school ties. Some of the examples of these business group include the Japanese Keiretsu where individual managers have a higher degree of autonomy in their companies but coordinate their tasks through the common main bank and the president council. Another illustration for the loose association is the horizontal financial groups found in Russian which are majorly industry alliances. The paper therefore, concentrates on the family groups. There is a wide economic literature on the business groups of families. The theories have suggested various arguments about the existence of business groups and the reason they use various ownership structures. Movie review - Essay Example As for the second movie, I think that the ending reflects the personal evolution of the main character, Cyril. Thus, all he wanted is to find his father, but the experience that he gained in the course of it contributed to his personal evolution. In other words, at the end of the movie he was able to develop a broader picture of the world and not limit his perception with the ideas which shaped his character in foster care. I believe that the ending of the first movie is a satisfying resolution to the events that lead up to it. If one takes a close look at the situation, one will be able to see that Sandra did not want to keep her job, just like other people did; she objected the lack of justice which happened in the work place. So, when we was presented with a choice to keep the job, but allow the injustice to continue, she, being faithful to her original desire, decided to resign. The ending of the second movie is also insightful: with the help of it the viewer is able to see that Cyril did not only try to find his father, he wanted to discover the new aspects of his personality and in the end, the audience is able to see that he made a giant leap in personal development. It is quite obvious that there is a peculiar relationship between the two endings. Thus, they both allow the characters to achieve the goal which they truly wanted, in spite of the fact that they may not have realized it.
